The rumors are true: A Scene + A Song is booking more events, and we’re doing jazz hands just thinking about it. A Scene + A Song uses theatre and music as a way to bring kids together and learn at the same time. There are so many benefits to children, but we’ve managed to shine a stage light on our favorite ten.
From the top, folks!

The schedule
It’s a monthly, five-day event, where kids meet for one hour per day for a week and perform on the last day. It happens on the 3rd week of the month. It’s for kids aged between 8 to 18, and they sit down together to get creative by writing a song and a scene. The format sounds a little something like this:
Day 1: Meet and greet/brainstorm
Day 2: Brainstorm
Day 3: Write
Day 4: Write/ finalize
Day 5: Perform (AKA “the best part”)
-
Cream of the crop
Your child is in the hands of pros. Professional musicians Heather and Dave Hamar teach kids to compose a song and then formulate a scene from a play that is performed on the last day. Talk about learning from the best!
-
Creative kids are happy kids
Our kid’s lives are pretty full, right? Formal education, sports, chores, and screen time. But what about creativity? How about imagination? Let’s not forget to flex the creative side of our brains once in a while. This workshop is a creative outlet like no other.
-
Confidence Building
Confidence and self-esteem stay with you throughout your entire life, and this event is great for anyone who’s shy or wants to come out of their shell.
-
It’s fun
When we read this Google review from a parent whose child had completed two events and loved them, we knew that we were striking the FUN chord.
“My daughter did a weeklong workshop and absolutely loved it…highly recommend the venue and staff.” – Lucas C.

Collaboration
Learning to work together is a life skill that we all need in our adult life, whether it’s collaborating for study, work, or on a creative project. It promotes problem-solving, listening, and speaking up. This workshop is the perfect introduction to collaboration.
-
Resilience
It’s a tough world out there. Things don’t always go to plan. Learning to roll with it is an essential lesson to learn. After all, the show must go on. This workshop teaches resilience, and the ability to keep calm and carry on, even if you sing off-key!
-
Positive vibes only
Our workshops encourage kindness, acceptance, and positivity. We include everyone and encourage our participants to listen to and respect all others in the group regardless of their level of experience and ability. We value all ideas and contributions.
-
Process over product
Life sometimes forces us to focus on the product rather than the process. We view things differently. This workshop teaches kids to enjoy the process of working together to accomplish a shared goal. We’re all striving for the same thing, and we’re in this together.

Anxiety eliminating
Many adults tell us that they’re terrified to perform in front of people. In fact, many people struggle with public speaking, and the idea of singing, acting, or dancing in front of strangers makes them break out in a cold sweat. Kids learn to conquer that fear, and this workshop helps them deal with any stage fright.
Just the ticket
Now for the bad news: places are limited. However, a spot on a Scene and a Song make the perfect gift for anyone, especially if they love to sing, dance, and perform. If your child or grandchild would benefit from a creative outlet and a special, memorable experience instead of yet another toy or video game, this is something that not only will they enjoy, but is going to serve them well in life.
Get in touch to find out about signing your child up, they’ll be glad you did!
